Time For New Beginnings

"This is a time for reflection as well as celebration. As you look back on the past year and all that has taken place in your life...

* Remember each experience for the good that has come of it and for the knowledge you have gained.

* Remember the efforts you have made and the goals you have reached.

* Remember the love you have shared and the happiness you have brought.

* Remember the laughter, the joy, the hard work, and the tears.

And as you reflect on the past year, also be thinking of the new one to come. Because most importantly, this is a time of new beginnings and the celebration of life."

Recipe for a Happy New Year

Take twelve fine, full-grown months; see that these are thoroughly free from old memories of bitterness, rancor and hate, cleanse them completely from every clinging spite; pick off all specks of pettiness and littleness; in short, see that these months are freed from all the past—have them fresh and clean as when they first came from the great storehouse of Time. Cut these months into thirty or thirty-one equal parts. Do not attempt to make up the whole batch at one time (so many persons spoil the entire lot this way) but prepare one day at a time.

Into each day put equal parts of faith, patience, courage, work (some people omit this ingredient and so spoil the flavor of the rest), hope, fidelity, liberality, kindness, rest (leaving this out is like leaving the oil out of the salad dressing— don’t do it), prayer, meditation, and one well-selected resolution. Put in about one teaspoonful of good spirits, a dash of fun, a pinch of folly, a sprinkling of play, and a heaping cupful of good humor.

The Real Essence Of Christmas

THE CHRISTMAS TEN COMMANDMENTS

* Thou shalt give thy heart to Christ. Let Him be at the top of thy Christmas shopping list.
* Thou shalt prepare thy soul for Christmas. Spend not so much on gifts that thy soul is forgotten. Thou shalt not let Santa Claus replace Christ, thus robbing the day of its spiritual reality.
* Thou shalt not burden the shop girl, the mailman, and the merchant with complaints and demands.
* Thou shalt give thyself with thy gift. This will increase its value a hundred fold, and he who receiveth it shall treasure it forever.
* Thou shalt not value gifts received by their cost. Even the least expensive may signify love, and that is more priceless than silver and gold.
* Thou shalt not neglect the needy. Share thy blessings with many who will go hungry and cold unless thou are generous.
* Thou shalt not neglect thy church. Its services highlight the true meaning of the season.
* Thou shalt be as a little child. Not until thou has become in spirit as a little one art thou ready to enter into the kingdom of Heaven.
* Thou shall not forget to share your joy, peace and faith with those around you.

WAYS WE ARE DIFFERENT THIS CHRISTMAS

* Last Christmas we were thinking about all the things we didn’t have; this Christmas we are thinking about all the things we do have.
* Last Christmas we were placing wreaths on the doors of our homes; this Christmas we are placing wreaths on the graves of our heroes.
* Last Christmas we were letting our sons play with toy guns; this Christmas we are teaching them that guns are not toys.
* Last Christmas we were counting our money; this Christmas we are counting our blessings.
* Last Christmas we were lighting candles to decorate; this Christmas we are lighting candles to commemorate.
* Last Christmas we paid lip service to the real meaning of the holidays; this Christmas we are paying homage to it.
* Last Christmas we were digging deep into our bank accounts to find money to fly home for the holidays; this Christmas we are digging deep into our souls to find the courage to do so.
* Last Christmas we were trying not to let annoying relatives get the best of us; this Christmas we are trying to give the best of ourselves to them.
* Last Christmas we were thinking about the madness of the holidays; this Christmas we are thinking about the meaning of them.
* Last Christmas we were getting on one another’s nerves; this Christmas we are getting on our knees.
* Last Christmas we were giving thanks for gifts from stores; this Christmas we are giving thanks for gifts from God.
* Last Christmas we were wondering how to give our children all the things that money can buy; this Christmas we are wondering how to give them all the things money can’t (peace, security). * * Last Christmas we were thinking about all the pressure we were under at the office; this Christmas we are thinking about all the people who no longer have an office to go to.
* Last Christmas we were thinking how good it would feel to be affluent; this Christmas we are thinking how good it feels to be alive.
* Last Christmas we thought angels were in heaven; this Christmas we know they are right here on earth.
* Last Christmas we were contemplating all the changes we wanted to make in the new year; this Christmas we are contemplating all the changes we will have to make in this new reality.
* Last Christmas we believed in the power of the pocketbook; this Christmas we believe in the power of prayer.
* Last Christmas we were sharing—spreading—listening to gossip; this Christmas we are sharing—spreading—listening to the Gospel.
* Last Christmas we were complaining about how much of our earnings went to taxes; this Christmas we comprehend that freedom isn’t free.
* Last Christmas we valued things that were costly; this Christmas we value things that are holy.
* Last Christmas the people we idolized wore sports uniforms; this Christmas the people we idolize wear police, firefighter and military uniforms.
* Last Christmas peace on earth was something we prayed for on Sunday morning; now it’s something we pray for every day.

CHRISTMAS AFFIRMATION

* I BELIEVE that Christmas is more than a time for parties and ornaments; it is a time for remembering Christ and the incarnation of God’s love in human flesh.
* I BELIEVE there are gifts more important than the ones under the Christmas tree, the things we teach our children, the way we share ourselves with friends, and the industry with which we set about reshaping the world in our time.
* I BELIEVE that the finest carols are often sung by the poorest voices; from hearts made warm by the wonder of the season.
* I BELIEVE in the angel’s message that we should not be afraid—that the Child of Bethlehem is able to overcome all anxieties and insecurities.
* I BELIEVE in prayer and quietness as a way of appropriating Christmas—that if I wait in silence I will experience the presence of the one born in the manger, for he lives today as surely as he lived then.
*I BELIEVE in going away from Christmas as the wise men went: "another way." I want to be different when these days are past—more centered, more thoughtful, more caring.
**AND I BELIEVE GOD will help me. Amen

Change Your Mind ~ Change Your Life

Fear is the greatest enemy of your future.

Uncertain times is no time to let fear stop us from living our lives to the fullest.

God has a perfect plan for each of our lives (Jeremiah 29:11). We must trust Him no matter what's going on around us. Be anxious for nothing, pray and be thankful in everything (Philippians 4:6).

When fear knocks at the door, let faith answer.

Fill your mouth with the Word of god and walk boldly and confidently into your future.

See, I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut (Revelation 3:8).

I am afraid, fearful of my own weaknesses; maybe even thinking what I have to give to God is not quite good enough fro His acceptance.

sometimes I feel that the mental geniuses and the physically strong always walk ahead of me. They seem to pass through the open doors of opportunity, unaware of my long struggle in working, waiting for my turn, I need a chance to break loose from this cocoon of inferiority.

Yesterday's disappointment will not stop me!

What I was then is no excuse for what I am today. Instead of sitting down I WILL get up, and with every bit of energy I can muster I WILL as a not~so~saintly saint reach for my impossible dream.

With one deep breath I get up, struggling to stand on my own two feet, but I am standing! Steps are coming...Wait...I see a DOOR...it's open...wide open...not closed, as I had thought. Someone is standing there. it's the Lord and I hear Him saying: "I know you well, you are strong, but you have tried to obey and have not denied My name. Therefore, I have opened a door to you that no man can shut.

Fill your mouth with the Word of God and walk boldly and confidently into the New Year, 2009.

Remember My Birthday

As you well know, we are getting closer to My birthday. Every year there is a celebration in My honor and I think that this year the celebration will be repeated. During this time there are many people shopping for gifts, there are many radio announcements, TV commercials, and in every part of the world everyone is talking that My birthday is getting closer and closer.

It is really very nice to know, that at least once a year, some people think of Me. As you know, the celebration of My birthday began many years ago. At first people seemed to understand and be thankful of all that I did for them, but in these times, no one seems to know the reason for the celebration.

Family and friends get together and have a lot of fun, but they don't know the meaning of the celebration. I remember that last year there was a great feast in My honor. The dinner table was full of delicious foods, pastries, fruits, assorted nuts and chocolates. The decorations were exquisite and there were many, many beautifully wrapped gifts. But, do you want to know something? I wasn't invited. I was the guest of honor and they didn't remember to send Me an invitation. The party was for Me, but when that great day came, I was left outside, they closed the door in My face...and I wanted to be with them and share their table.

In truth, that didn't surprise Me because in the last few years all close their doors to Me. Since I was not invited, I decided to enter the party without making any noise. I went in and stood in a corner. They were all drinking; there were some who were drunk and telling jokes and laughing at everything. They were having a great time. To top it all, this big fat man all dressed in red wearing along white beard entered the room yelling Ho-Ho-Ho! He seemed drunk. He sat on the sofa and all the children ran to him, saying: "Santa Claus, Santa Claus"... as if the party were in his honor! At 12 midnight all the people began to hug each other ; I extended My arms waiting for someone to hug Me and...do you know...no one hugged Me.

Suddenly they all began to share gifts. They opened them one by one with great expectation. When all had been opened, I looked to see if, maybe, there was one for Me. How would you feel if on your birthday everybody shared gifts and you did not get one? I then understood that I was unwanted at that party and quietly left. Every year it gets worse. People only remember to eat and drink, the gifts, the parties and nobody remembers Me.
I would like this Christmas that you allow Me to enter into your life.

I would like that you recognize the fact that almost two thousand years ago I came to this world to give My life for you, on the cross, to save you. Today, I only want that you believe this with all you heart. I want to share something with you. As many didn't invite Me to their party, I will have My own celebration, a grandiose party that no one has ever imagined, a spectacular party. I'm still making the final arrangements.

Today I am sending out many invitations and there is an invitation for you. I want to know if you wish to attend and I will make a reservation for you and write your name with golden letters in My great guest book. Only those on the guest list will be invited to the party.

Those who don't answer the invitation, will be left outside. Do you know how you can answer this invitation? It is by extending it to others whom you care for... I'll be waiting for all of you to attend my party...

See you soon ....I love you !

Bringing Joy To Children In Hospital

I witnessed the most awe inspiring event today with bikers delivering toys to the Portland, Oregon Shriner's Children Hospital...Over 7000 bikes with two bikers per most bikes brought toys to the children!! There must have been 15-20 thousand people! I am still trying to take it all in. Was in tears most of the time while watching. This is just a few of the pictures. Bikers from all around the world I think were here. Bikers for Christ, Bikers for Vet, Biker-Bikers and more bikers!! Bikes decorated and FULL of toys! Simply amazing!!

This December season offers all of us a chance to take a look at our lives and appreciate the blessings we have, whether they're large or small.

God's love and His Blessings are just waiting for us, wherever we are. We are all part of God's Family and we must all do our part to bring hope to the hopeless.

Keep your thoughts on Jesus, whatever you may do. All will know without a word, that Jesus lives in you.

Wherever you may go, He always will be near. He's standing close beside you, to quiet every fear.

Good deeds are like good seeds, growing into a beautiful garden of life. You can give without loving, but you can't love without giving.

Do all the good you can when you can, how you can, where you can and to whom you can.

Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. (James 2:17)

Divine December

December brings a chilly, gray looking sky. Colors muted, and clod weather seems here to stay. Winter solstice arrives toward the end of the month, with the official first day of winter. Even now, days are beginning to lengthen and we can gradually look forward to more daylight.

Though it is one of the most coldest months on our calendar, it is one of the warmest months in our hearts. It is the month when we celebrate the birth of Jesus. He came into the world poor, wrapped in swaddling clothes, His bed a manger. His parents were far from the comfort of their home the night of His birth, having journeyed to Bethlehem to be counted in a census. Turned away from the Inn, sent to a stable. There, among common animals, Jesus was born.

The world was changed for all time!

This is a story told many times, but never to grow old. It rings down through centuries, always new and inspiring. For Jesus came to bring peace and love into a weary world. His words and deeds are fresh in our hearts to this very day. The joy of His birth is echoed in the love we share with others!

Sometimes the message of his birth gets lost in commercial trappings of the holiday. It becomes a time of gift, card and parties. But we should always remember the real reason for Christmas.

Take time during the holiday festivities to stop and think of Jesus. When His spirit of Peace becomes a part of our lives, each day will be Christmas, and each night will hold promise of joy in the morning. So find a quiet corner and say a little prayer, a prayer of love and brotherhood for all men!

Usher the old year out by letting your faith shine like a beacon to herald the New year.

Decide right now things are going to be better for you and your dear ones and that, with God’s help, you will work hard to make it your best year ever.
December 7th~Pearl Harbor Day, the anniversary of the Japanese attack of Pearl Harbor in 1941, putting the United States into World War 11.
December 25th~Christmas, the birthday of Jesus, and a time for good will toward all men!
December 31st~New Year's Eve...a time to say goodbye to the old year, and welcome the New Year with anticipation!
In December I will share the Lord's peace and love with all I meet.

Stepping Out In Faith

When was the last time you consciously, willfully stepped out in faith, trusting God regardless of the potential outcome?

A very real tension exists between what we would like the outcome of a situation to be, and what God wants for us. Faith is about trusting that God can see beyond our limited vantage point to the bigger picture. Jesus assures us that faith provides everything we need to cope in this world.

“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. You believe in, adhere to, trust in and rely on God, believe in, adhere to, trust in and rely on Me also.” (John 14:1)

It is important to make the distinction between trust in God and trust in the outcome. The Bible says; “The Lord is righteous in all His way and holy in all His works.” (Psalm 145:17)

While God’s works may truly be merciful, at times they can undo us emotionally. It can be devastating when we trust in the outcome, and forget or refuse to lean on God for His understanding and mercy. “Not Your will, God,” I’ll say, “but mine.”

We lost my mother very unexpectedly a almost five years ago and found that we had many things to take care of and tend to. All we had was God…He had not abandoned us.

I will be honest with you~it was hard to like God. After all, how come He took her from us so early? He could of spared us those dark hours. It was within His power to do so. I trusted in Him, and felt He had let me down.

In my time spent with the Lord the next year, God pointed out that He loved her so much that He sent someone into her life to love and nuture in good times and bad times. That someone was her children. He must of felt we were pretty special if He choose us, out of all the candidates, to be her children.

All our pain is not without purpose, if it meant we got to know and love her. Hurt faded into gratitude as blessings were discovered amongst the losses. God keeps His promises.
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future. Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I willl listen to you. You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart.” (Jeremiah 29:11-13)

When we step out in trust on God’s understanding, despite our hopes for the outcome, we deepen our relationship with Him. “In pece I will both lie down and sleep, for You, Lord, alone make me dwell in safety and confident trust.” (Psalm 4:8)

When the outcome is not what we would have chosen, we feel that God ignored or shunned our prayers. Reality is, God always hears and answers our prayers, but He is not limited by our blurred vision. “Great is our Lord and of great power; His understanding is inexhaustible and boundless.” (Psalm 147:17) God sees beyond the immediate. He knows what we need.

Pain, suffering and disappointment can come to us with such enormity that all other reality is engulfed, all other thoughts eclipsed.

Personal pain can potentially unseat the strongest of faiths. With the real threat of being tossed about like a ship on rough seas.

I have learned that God’s truths are like an anchor in the storm. I am secure in the knowledge tha “neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8: 38-39)

Mike Mason writes, “One does not hold rational, articulate opinions when one is writing in pain.”

May we let the Good Shepherd, Shepherd us today and always.

Take Comfort

For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, works for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory.
(2 Corinthians 4:17)

Do you ever feel your trials are like wearing a crown of thorns? Be faithful...As you trust in God, your crown of thorns will be taken away and He will hand you a crown with stars instead. Remember to thank and praise Him.

Do you feel like you are over loaded, your hands filled with heavy cares? Be faithful...As you keep trusting in God, He will take away your heavy cares and place a harp in your grasp, so you may sing glory and honor to God for all He has done. Remember to thank and praise Him.

Do your garments feel soiled with dirt and grime from struggling in a sin~sick world? Stay faithful...He will replace them with clothing that is shining white. Remember to thank and praise Him.

Hold on and do not despair. There will be a time when you look back and your trials will seem as nothing in light of the many answered prayers, miracles, and evidence of God's glory and grace.
When we meet in heaven, our adversities will become strangely dim in the shadows of God's unfailing love. Remember to thank and praise Him.

In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus. (1 Thessalonians 5:18)

A Mother's Hands

We should never take for granted the special time that we have with our
family. We never know when this precious gift will be taken away, so it
should be relished, nurtured and enjoyed each and every day. We sometimes lose focus of the important things in life and look more at things that do not matter. We must reassess what truly matters and come to the realization that our family is most important and they are the ones that truly love us.
A few years ago, when my mother was visiting, she asked me to go shopping with her because she needed a new dress. I don't normally like to go shopping with other people, and I'm not a patient person, but we set off for the mall together nonetheless.

We visited nearly every store that carried ladies' dresses, and my mother tried on dress after dress, rejecting them all. As the day wore on, I grew weary and my mother grew frustrated.

Finally, at our last stop, my mother tried on a lovely blue three-piece dress. The blouse had a bow at the neckline, and as I stood in the dressing room with her, I watched as she tried, with much difficulty, to tie the bow. Her hands were so badly crippled from arthritis that she couldn't do it. Immediately, my impatience gave way to an overwhelming wave of compassion for her. I turned away to try and hide the tears that welled up involuntarily. Regaining my composure, I turned back to tie the bow for her. The dress was beautiful, and she bought it. Our shopping trip was over, but the event was etched indelibly in my memory.

For the rest of the day, my mind kept returning to that moment in the dressing room and to the vision of my mother's hands trying to tie that bow. Those loving hands that had fed me, bathed me, dressed me, caressed and comforted me, and, most of all, prayed for me, were now touching me in the most remarkable manner.

Later in the evening, I went to my mother's room, took her hands in mine, kissed them and, much to her surprise, told her that to me they were the most beautiful hands in the world.

I'm so grateful that God let me see with new eyes what a precious, priceless gift a loving, self-sacrificing mother is. I can only pray that some day my hands, and my heart, will have earned such a beauty of their own.

By Bev Hulsizer

Think of your family this day and make an extra effort to do something special where memories will be formed that will last a lifetime. (John 13:34)

Romans 12:9-10 Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good. Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another.

1 John 4:10-12; Hebrews 13:1-3; 1 Peter 3:8-11
I hope this message encourages your heart to see that your family is most important and the time spent with them is what will fill your heart with joy.

Lion Chaser

The risk of taking no risks “Chase The Lion” (2 Samuel 23:20-22)

Benaiah chased a lion down into a pit. Then, despite the snow and slippery ground, he caught the beast and killed it. Scripture doesn’t tell us what he was doing or where he was going when he encountered the lion. It does reveals his gut reaction. And it was gutsy. Our reaction would be to run away as fast as we can.

Normal people take flight. Lion chasers are a different breed. They don’t see 500 pound problems. When opportunity roars, they grab life by the mane.

If your in a pit with a lion on a snowy day, you’ve got a serious problem. Most likely the last problem you’ll ever have. You must admit that, “I killed a lion in a pit on a snowy day” looks might good on your resume if your applying for a bodyguard position with the king of Israel.
Benaiah did land a job as David’s chief bodyguard. He climbed all the way up the ladder to become Commander in Chief of Israel’s army~the second most powerful person in the kingdom.

The genealogy of his success can be traced back to a decision that would shape his destiny: Run away or give chase.”

Regrets and Omission
Your biggest regret at the end of your life will be the lions you did not chase. According to the research of social psychologists Tom Gilovich and Vicki Medvec, over the short term, we tend to regret actions~things we did that we wish we hadn’t. But over the long haul, we tend to bemoan inactions~things we didn’t do but wish we had.

We all have our fair share of action regrets. I’m convinced that if we don’t decide to change now, our deepest regrets at the end of our lives will be the risks we didn’t take, the opportunities we didn’t seize, the dreams we didn’t pursue.

Gutsiness and Godliness
Gutsiness, which manifests in different ways, is a big part of following Christ. It’s challenging the status quo. Daring to be different. Refusing to play things safe. Think about it, no one was more gutsy than Jesus. He wasn’t afraid of offending powerful religious leaders. He defied social mores by reaching out to touch lepers~some of society’s most revile outcasts~and restore their dignity. Unconcerned about His reputation, He boldly befriended and defended prostitutes, tax collectors, and outsiders who came to Him looking for new life. There was nothing remotely passive about Christ.

As Dorothy Sayers says, “The people who crucified Jesus didn’t do so because He was a bore. Quite the contrary, He was too dynamic to be safe. We have declawed the Lion of Judah and made Him a house cat." OUCH…

As the old saying goes; “No guts, no glory.”

When we lack the guts to live by faith, we’re robbing God of the glory He wants to reveal to the world through us. He said, “…The gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” (Matthew 16:18)

Future and Present
At some point, most of us stop creatively forging our way into the future and start reliving and repeating the past. We stop acting on the dreams of our God~given imagination and start reacting to our narrowly focused memory. We stop chasing lions and start running from them. The rest of your life can be shaped by the decision to give chase rather than run away. As was true of Benaiah.

What lion is God calling you to chase? Maybe it’s time to go on the mission trip that would require sacrifice. Loosen your grip on personal time and mentor someone. Swallow your pride and reconcile a relationship. Quit dragging your feet and ask her to marry you. Take a night class. Take a week off and take your family on a fun vacation. Go see your parents. Commit to following Chrrist wherever He leads you. Chase the lion!

I will quit living as if the purpose of life is to arrive safely at death.
I will quit focusing on self-preservation and be willing to take risks.
I will quit trying to be who I’m not and start being myself.
I will quit holding out or holding back.
I will quit running away.
I will burn sinful bridges and blaze new trails.
I will NOT let what’s wrong with me keep me from worshipping what’s right with God.
I will go after the dream He’s given me that’s “God-sized” enough to fail without Him.
I will stop complaining and find creative ways to become part of the solution.
I will step out of my comfort zone and value every experience~even the difficult ones.
I will worry less about what people think and more about what God thinks.
I will follow Him wherever He leads me.

CALLED TO GO

We who have accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as our personal Savior have been given the command to go out into the whole world and preach the gospel.
The Lord saved us from our sins and forever secured our eternity and now calls us His disciples who are to go forth showing others the truth that we have found. Heaven and Hell are both very real and every soul will spend eternity in one of these two places. (Mark 16:15-16) (Revelation 20:11-15)

It is our responsibility to share the simple truth of the Lord with all who are lost and introduce them to the Risen Savior who died so that they might live forever with Him. Encourage yourself to be a witness for Christ because every soul is precious to Him and He wishes for none to perish but that all should come to repentance. (Romans 10:12-15) (2 Peter 3:9)

Lately I've been feeling the Lord calling me to go somewhere for Him. I never thought I'd be called to be a missionary, but I can clearly hear Him calling me. This place He's asking me to go frightens me. Maybe all missionaries feel that way at first.

Many questions run though my mind about this place. What are the people like? What are their beliefs? Do they even believe God exists?

I wonder how I will ever get the courage to go and, if I do, how will I go about telling them of Jesus? Will they reject me? Will they ridicule me? Will I fail Him?

This place He's sending me is so scary! I'm afraid to go, but I know I must. Otherwise, how will they ever hear the Good News? Who will tell them if I don't?

Yes, I can clearly hear Him calling me to go...across the street...to my neighbor.

Romans 10:13-15 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!

Isaiah 55:6-7 Seek ye the LORD while He may be found, call ye upon Him while He is near: Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and He will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon.

2 Corinthians 5:17-19 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to Himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; To wit, that
God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto Himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.

HOW DOES YOUR GARDEN GROW?

The greatest gift that we can give of ourselves is the gift of love. We will be remembered far longer for the love that was shown towards others than any other single thing that exists. Our acts of love can be shown in many ways such as making special time to be attentive to ones needs, giving a gift for no special reason, saying I love you and showing it to those who are nearest to our hearts and simply letting people know that we appreciate them and telling them how much they mean to us. Love implied isn't the same as love shown, so encourage yourself to make an extra effort to let your love be made known towards everyone whom you hold dear to your heart.

I hope you are encouraged and challenged to make an extra effort each day to let the love that is within your heart be shown where all will be impacted for the better.

“The only way to have a friend is to be one.” I'm certain I must have read that verse dozens, if not hundreds of times, and yet, it's simple but profound message continued to grow in my heart throughout my adult life.

Whether it's friendship, marriage, or another form of loving relations, all relationships entail a foundation built on the acts of giving and receiving. As flowers soak up the rays of the sun, and droplets of dew, offering to man their fragrant and bright blooms, so too does every loving relationship require the loving gestures of both individuals.

For five years, Tom had his eye on Sandra, a peppy and pleasant young lady who worked in his office. In the past, when Tom's schedule wasn't as demanding, Tom and Sandra shared lunches and spoke to each other often. Tom promised Sandra many a time he would take her out on a “proper date,” but as the weeks, then months began to fly by and Tom's schedule became more hectic, Sandra gave up hope. In Sandra's mind, Tom was disinterested, so there was no sense in hoping for something that would never happen. A year later, Sandra announced to her fellow employees that she was engaged to be married! When Tom heard the news, he was so shocked he turned white and had to sit down. “How can she do that to me? She should be marrying me, not him,” whimpered Tom as a tear fell down his eye.

In that same office building, was employed a middle-aged woman named Helen, who was a divorced mother of a thirteen year old boy. As Helen sipped her coffee at her desk, she reflected on the messy argument she and her son had just before work. This was not their first fight, but the result of years of lack of communication and neglect. The truth of the matter was that Helen's son never knew for certain if his mother loved him or not, and this caused much conflict in their relationship.

The wealthy, elderly owner of the above mentioned building, Mrs. Emily Hawkins, was on her death bed in the hospital. The doctor notified her immediate family and friends, knowing they would want to say their final good-byes. All of Mrs. Hawkins children came, shedding heartfelt tears, but there were no friends to come because the wealthy Mrs. Hawkins never took the time to nurture meaningful friendships.

Real Life Application:

What these three stories have in common is all their outcomes could have come out very differently if only they would have watered their gardens more carefully. Loving words unspoken, caring gestures never accomplished, time never given; all of these resulted in seeds of friendship and love being choked by bitter weeds of neglect, selfishness, fear, and all things which destroy, rather than build up.

I ask you again, how does your own garden grow?

Is there a special one, two or three flowers you wish to see blossom, and yet it never seems to grow? Then ask yourself how well you are caring for that tender bud. Is it being watered with kindness and thoughtfulness? Is the warmth of love freely administered as does the sun offer it's rays of light? Are the leaves of the flower pruned and nurtured continually with the gifts of time, energy, and self?

As I again ponder that verse which sat upon my wall for so many years of my childhood, it is my hope that, for those people who I “say” I love, be they spouse, children, or friend, that I will do my best to let my love, not be mere lip service, but to let the true heartfelt emotions which fill my heart, overflow and pour out, so that every blossom may be watered and never wither. In like manner, may the reality of God pour out into your own lives, so that your hearts can fully comprehend what is the height, breath, and width of His love.

Romans 12:14-17 “Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not. Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep. Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits. Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men.”

Hebrews 13:1-3 “Let brotherly love continue. Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares. Remember them that are in bonds, as bound with them; and them which suffer adversity, as being yourselves also in the body.”

Galatians 6:1-4 “Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fullfil the law of Christ. For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself. But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another.”

GRANDMA'S GARDEN

At all times we are to have faith that God is in control of our lives and He will make all things work together for our good. Just as the Lord feeds every living creature upon the Earth and sustains the world to work in perfect order, so will He direct our life's path to reach victory and attain every good and perfect gift that He has for us. We need only to trust God and believe that He will do what He has promised in His Word.

The Bible declares in Isaiah 55:11 “So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.” No limits can be placed on what God is able to do and as His children we are to have expectant faith that our Heavenly Father has good things prepared for us who Love Him. (Romans 8:28) (Psalm 145:14-18)

Have faith in God's wisdom that He is in control of all things and will be with you and bring you forth victorious.

Some of my favorite summer childhood days had been spent in Grandma’s garden helping her pull up plants she identified as weeds, or planting vegetables and flowers. She had taught me that gardening wasn't only about cultivating plants, it was about cultivating faith. Each seed planted was proof of that. When I asked, “Grandma, how do the seeds know to grow the roots down and the green part up?”

“Faith,” was her answer.

Grandma is tending God's garden now but still influences me daily. Whenever I tuck a seedling into the earth, I trace a small cross above it in the air and say, “God bless you, grow.” And in quiet times, I can still hear her blessing, nurturing my faith. “God bless you, grow.”

Psalm 103:1-5 “Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless His holy name. Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies; Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle’s.”

Psalm 145:14-18 “The LORD upholdeth all that fall, and raiseth up all those that be bowed down. The eyes of all wait upon Thee; and Thou givest them their meat in due season. Thou openest Thine hand, and satisfiest the desire of every living thing. The LORD is righteous in all His ways, and Holy in all His works. The LORD is nigh unto all them that call upon Him, to all that call upon Him in truth.”

Philippians 4:4-7 “Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice. Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand. Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

Being Thankful In All Things

Be thankful unto Him and bless His Name!
(Psalm 100:4)

November is tricky. There are sparkling days and there are gray days when we find ourselves discouraged. Everywhere you look people are busy getting ready for winter.

It is also a month to be thankful for what we have, for the blessings God has bestowed upon us and our loved ones.

Thanksgiving is a wonderful season. Houses full of people taking time to say thanks to God…Appreciating every step we have taken this year…Gratitude we give as we gather together…Never forgetting that God is always near.
Being grateful for the good things that happen, and pray for God’s help when trouble strikes.

We have all had our share of troubles, but must remain cheerful. You may ask, “How do we deal with discouragement?”

Fend them off with three P’s. The first P is for Prayer. If you pray about anything, strength comes.
The second P is for Patience. Some troubles never go away. You have to bear them.
The third P is for Persistence. No matter how discouraged, you have to keep trying to improve the situation.
I’ll remember the three P’s and add Practice to them.

Resolve to keep dark moods from your door. Above all, stay hopeful and keep cheerful. Wear a smile and don’t be gloomy.
This is the day the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it. (Psalm 118:24)

Evenings are longer now, with plenty of time inside for us to think about our Lord’s kindness. Meditate on His many blessings, remember all He does to make you glad. Then tell Him about it. Let Him know you love Him and that you are happy in His keeping.

Father God, thank You for keeping us, our family and friends. Sharpen our remembrance as we give thanks to You. Impart Your wisdom as we pray. Veil us with Your light that shines bright. Introduce our thoughts to higher heights. Never let us wander form You and give us lives filled with triumph and victory! Thank You, Thank You!

HAVE A HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Keep Praying~Keep Believing

For by Him were ALL THINGS created that are in heaven and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones or dominions, or principalities or powers, ALL THINGS were created by Him and for Him: And He is before ALL THINGS, and by Him ALL THINGS consist. And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in ALL THINGS He might have preeminence...To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. (Colossians 1:16-18, 27)

God Bless America, land that I love. I thank God for giving me the privilege of living in such a time as this. What a moment in history!

God raises up and He tears down. He goes before us and is with us. He will not fail us neither forsake us. Fear not, neither be dismayed.

Red and yellow, black and white, we are precious in His sight...The prayers of a righteous man avails much...

GOD BLESS AMERICA

"While the storm clouds gather far across the sea, Let us swear allegiance to a land that's free, Let us all be grateful for a land so fair, As we raise our voices in a solemn prayer. "

God Bless America, Land that I love. Stand beside her, and guide her Thru the night with a light from above. From the mountains, to the prairies, To the oceans, white with foam God bless America, My home sweet home.

A father wanted to read a magazine but was being bothered by his little girl, Shelby. She wanted to know what the United States looked like so he tore a sheet out of his new magazine on which was printed the map of the country. Tearing it into small pieces, he gave it to Shelby , and said, 'Go into the other room and see if you can put this together.

This will show you our whole country today. After a few minutes, Shelby returned and handed him the map, correctly fitted and taped together. The father was surprised and asked how she had finished so quickly. Oh she said, 'on the other side of the paper is a picture of Jesus. When I got Jesus back where He belonged, then our country just came together.'

God Bless America

This is a very important day in history..please cast your VOTE.

Choose for yourselves this day whom you shall serve...but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. (Joshua 24:15)

Thank You Lord God that You are omnipresent and omniscient. In You ALL THINGS are held together! It is not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit says the Lord. Come to our aid Lord. Thank You that You are our strength in our weakness. By the power of Your Spirit make us stand, for we are Your people, we are called by Your name. Let us not be ashamed, nor let the enemy put us to confusion. In the thick of the battle, let the shout of VICTORY be heard! Let us rise up and praise You though the battle be hot against us. For Thou, our God, are a Mighty Man of War. Rise up in our behalf and set up a counterattack~besiege the enemy and bring his power to nought.

What can wash away our sins? Nothing but the Blood of Jesus!

One Day At A Time Sweet Jesus

Take therefore no thought for the morrow, for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.…Matthew 6:34
Don't worry about tomorrow. (Easier said then done huh)?
Max Lucado says, "Worry is to joy what a vacuum cleaner is to dirt; you might as well attach your heart to a happiness-sucker and flip the switch." Jesus said, "Don't get worked up about...tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes." When it looks like things are falling apart, Paul reminds us, "Every detail in our lives... is worked into something good" (Rom 8:28 TM). When it seems like the world's gone mad, don't forget God "existed before anything else,... and He holds all creation together" (Col 1:17 NLT). When worry whispers, "God doesn't know what you need," remember God promised to "take care of everything you need" (Philp 4:19 TM).

Jesus taught us to pray, "Give us this day our daily bread." You won't get the wisdom or resources to handle tomorrow's problems till you need them. When we "go confidently to the throne...[we'll] find kindness, which will help us at the right time" (Heb 4:16 GWT).

Over a century ago Charles Spurgeon said: "Enough for today is all we can enjoy. We cannot eat, drink, or wear more than today's supply of food and clothing. The surplus gives us the care of storing it and the anxiety that someone might steal it. One staff aids a traveler; a bunch of staves is a heavy burden. Enough is as good as a feast, and more than gluttony can enjoy. Enough is all we should expect; a craving for more is ungratefulness. When our Father doesn't give you more, be content with your daily allowance."
Happiness is not having all you want. Happiness is wanting all you have.

Seeing God In Our Situation

Because of this I rejoice. - Philippians 1:18

When Paul wrote, "What has happened to me has really served to advance the Gospel" (Philp 1:12), he was in prison using his situation to tell people about Jesus. He goes on to say, "It has become clear throughout the whole palace guard...that I am in chains for Christ" (Philp 1:13). Then he points out that through his imprisonment "most of the brothers in the Lord have been encouraged to speak the Word of God more courageously and fearlessly" (Philp 1:14). Even when Paul found out that some people were preaching the Gospel to make trouble for him, he said, "What does it matter? The important thing is...whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice" (Philp 1:18).

Arrested unjustly, treated unkindly, his future uncertain, Paul looked for God's hand in every situation. Therefore he could say in all things "because of this I rejoice". What perspective! What an attitude!

A century ago, following a coal mining accident, the Bishop of Durham told mourners, "It's difficult to understand why God let such a disaster happen, but we know and trust Him and all will be right.

I have embroidered kitchen towels my grandmother made. When I examine the wrong side I see nothing but a tangle of threads...it looks like a big mistake. One would think someone had done it who didn't know what they were doing. But when I turn it over and look at the right side I see beautifully embroidered, the days of the week and a lady doing a chore. We are looking at this today from the wrong side. Someday we shall see it from another standpoint and we shall understand."When we begin to see God in our situation, we can say "because of this I rejoice".

YOU DETERMINE YOUR ATTITUDE your attitude is not determined by circumstances, but by how you respond to your circumstances.

Fear Not

Stormy winds fulfill His Word" Psalm 148:8

Is there no music in the heart of sorrow that the Lord of all has chosen for His own? Are you not nearer to the Master, have you not grown in faith, in patience, in prayerfulness, in thankful hope, since the time the storm winds first sighed across your life?

It is no small matter to grow nearer to God, it is worth all the tempest your soul has known. The heart of the Lord was yearning over you, and could not be satisified till His winds had driven your soul entirely into the refuge and protection of His love.

Do not tremble because of the winds of the future, your Lord will be living and loving tomorrow, even as He lives and loves today and no storm waits in your path but shall leave behind another record that your Heavenly Father is stronger than the tempest, nearer than the grief.

We are traveling home to that glorious shore where the chill winds never sweep, the hurricane makes no moan, yet, amid the rest of the painless Homeland, shall we not love the Lord a thousandfold more for every storm of earth in which He drew nerar to us, saying, "Fear not," and held us by the hand, and tenderly bore us through the hour that seemed the darkest?

Set your thoughts, not on the storm, but on the Love that rules the storm.

One Thing Is Necessary

With the economy the way it is, job losses, and the holiday's approaching, one thing is needful.

But one thing is needful; and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her. (Luke 10:42 )

This is the word of Jesus. Someone who knows more than we do - and loves us more than we love ourselves. So, we need to listen and take heed. (After all, we should realize that Jesus did not say things for His own benefit, but to help us.)It is easy to get busy in life and let ourselves be distracted from what we know is important. That was the case with Martha, the sister of Mary, in the scripture quoted from above. Martha knew she needed to hear what Jesus' had to say - but she also knew that she was responsible for preparing something to eat.

What could she do?

We all face such problems - which are actually choices. We choose what our priorities are. We decide what we will spend our time and energy on. And we should choose wisely. (Here's a tip: if it won't be important one hundred years from now, it's not that important now, either).

In this situation, Jesus brought a calming - not a condemning - word to Martha. (Jesus is still not interested in condemning people, but in helping them).

In effect, Jesus said to not worry, but to put hearing what God has to say first, and then somehow things will work out with God's help. Jesus' is saying the same message to you, today.

The most important and productive way we can spend time is in getting God's wisdom, guidance, and help. Hearing and heeding His Word will pay rich dividends in this time, as well as for eternity.

Never forget that God can do more for you in one minute, than you could accomplish in a lifetime by yourself.

Don't make the wrong choices.

SAY THIS: I will listen to God's Word. Then, with God's help, I will make it.
God has seen you struggling (with something), He says it's over. A blessing is coming your way.

How Would Jesus Vote

This is excerpts from something I read by D. James Kennedy.
It is long but well worth the read and something to pray and think about during the 2008 elections coming up real soon. Get out and VOTE!!

What Party Does God Claim?
What side is God on? People have wanted to know that since the beginning of warfare.
In Joshua 5:13,14 Joshua has an encounter with God, or more precisely, the Son of God, asking Him (much the same way we ask today).."Lord, are you for us or for our enemies?
The reply was, "Neither." He is not on anybody's side. Jesus said the he was the Commander~Joshua's captain and the Lord of the battle.

How Do We Vote The Christian Way?
We want to vote "correctly," but how do we know the right way to vote~the Christian way to vote?
Jesus goes on to explain to Joshua that he will be victorious if he obeys the Lord and does what he is commanded to do. The question, therefore, is not if God is on our side, but rather, are we on God's side?
You may recall that Abraham Lincoln said as much during the Civil War. In 1863 he overheard someone say that he hoped "the Lord was on the Union's side." The president responded: "I know the Lord is always on the side of the right. But it is my constant anxiety and prayer that I and this nation should be on the Lord's side."

Does God Care How We Vote?
I believe the answer is yes. For many years Christians have abstained from politics, and now they are shocked that the culture around them has deteriorated. We should not rely solely on political power to right the world's wrongs. When Jesus was on earth, He did not reside in a democratic republic and had no opportunity to cast a ballot. Meanwhile, those of us who make following Him our first priority believe He has spoken through His Word and given us principles that can inform us on how to vote on many issues.
Does the Bible say anything about how we are to educate our young? Does it say anything about abortion or capital punishment? Does it say anything about war or how we are to vote on the envioronment, immigration or health care? Sincere Christians may have different views on how to tackle issues. However, I trust that we have grace enough to respect Christians on either side of the partisan aisle.

Do The Bible And Politics Mix?
Jesus said we are to "render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God, the things that are God's." (Luke 20:25) Furthermore, we are called to be salt and light, which has political implications.
Jesus put His seal of approval on the Old Testament as the Word of God, saying, for example, "Do not think that I come to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled." (Matthew 5:17,18) Not one jot or tittle~much less a word, a sentence, or an entire prophetic book~should be ignored.
Let us humbly search the Scriptures to see if God has something to say on political issues that are tearing apart our nation. Let usdo so with the great motto sometimes attributed to Augustine, other times to Blaise Pascal: "In essentials, unity. In nonessentials, liberty. And in all things, charity.

Can We Know How Jesus Would Vote?
Yes. He left us all sorts of commands and principles to follow. Obviously, there is ambiguity (two or more possible meanings, not clear) in some of those principles; otherwise Christian history would not be full of sincere, well~meaning Christians fighting over those principles, over doctrine. Human pride is a huge factor in such fights. Just as Jesus dealt with religious Pharisees and secular~minded sadducees, so we contend with both in our time. In declaring Christian principles that guide voting, we cannot help but be controversial. Others will disagree..It goes with the territory. But unless we risk offending (Jesus even offended people), we cannot uphold our duty to God.
John Calvin once said, "The task of the church is to make the invisible reign of Christ visible."
As we submit to His reign more and more in our lives, and we compromise less and less with the world, we will see powerful results in our land.

2 Chronicles 7:14: If my people, which are called by my name shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

Under Pressure

We are pressed...but not...broken. - 2 Corinthians 4:8

Do you feel like you're in a tunnel with no way out? Rejoice, you're positioned for a miracle! Paul said, "We are pressed on every side by troubles, but not crushed and broken. We are perplexed...but we don't give up and quit. We are hunted down, but God never abandons us. We get knocked down, but we get up again and keep going" (2 Cor 4:8,9).

A certain amount of pressure is necessary to release our faith, and God knows exactly how much to apply. He allows us to get to where: (a) We've exhausted our own resources. (b) We're tired of Satan stealing what God says is ours. (c) The opinions of others no longer control us. It's the place Hannah found herself in when she prayed in the temple, "In distress of soul...and weeping bitterly" (1 Sam 1:10). She was under such pressure because of her childless state that when she began to unburden herself before God, the church hierarchy thought she was drunk. But when you're desperate, you're not overly concerned about blowing the minds of religious onlookers; your only concern is touching the heart of God.

With God there are no hopeless situations, just people who've grown hopeless about them. Real faith comes into its own when push collides with shove. After all, you don't need God to part the Red Sea when there are bridges all around, right? It's when there's nothing you can do to avoid the inevitable that you start trusting God to do the impossible! So the crisis you're experiencing today could be a blessing in disguise - an opportunity to experience a greater degree of His power at work in your life.
2 Sam 20:1 - 22:30, John 5:31-47, Ps 126, Pr 24:10

The Shepherd Speaks Gently

God is the Good Shepherd who gave His life for the sheep.

The thief comes to steal, kill and destroy, I come that you might have life and that you might have it more abundantly. (John 10:10)

Because God knows our nature, He also knows our needs. (Heck, I don't even know my own needs).

As we go in and out, we can enjoy abundant life in God's rich pasture, truly enjoying fullness and freedom.

In the pasture, by the waters, and through the valleys, we sheep need not fear, because the Shepherd is caring for us and meeting our needs. We shall not want, goodness and mercy shall follow us all the days of our lives. (Psalm 23)

My little one, have you not heard My Word, go not into the bypaths? I, your loving Shepherd am by your side. why should you wander off? I have brought you into tender green pastures and beside a flowing stream. Let your soul drink deeply and feed to your heart's content.

It is no idle pastime; I have brought you here for My own good pleasure and for purposes only known to Me. In the days ahead you shall know why we came this way. Trust Me now and be unmoved by any disturbance. The distant call, you shall ignore. Stay close to Me and your heart shall delight in thy God. Your fellowship with Me ashall be precious beyond anything words can tell. I love you deeply, and when love is deep, words are little needed. Shouting is unthinkable. Devotion is silent and love silences conversation. The shepherd speaks gently, and lambs do not respond to shouts. He who yells at the sheep is behaving like a hireling rather than like a shepherd. The inner ear of the spirit is attuned to hear the still small voice.

Lay your head upon My knee and let Me quiet you. Forget all the rest! What others do, need not concern you. I have never required you to understand the actions of others. Only yield. Let Me do all the rest.

Sleep is My love gift to you. Do not despise it or set it aside. Rest in My care, for I love to care for you but I can't when you are wrongfully anxious about the behavior of others. I will correct and minister to them Myself, for I love them just as much as I love you. But they are too occupied to come to Me now. Leave them all to Me. Come rest in your Shepherd's arm.

Lord, may this sheep hear Your voice and not be afraid to follow. Thank You that I am in Your flock and fold and have the wonderful privilege of going in and out finding pasture. Thank You that You know us by name, our nature and our characteristics. You recognize these traits and You consider the special needs as You tend to us. Thank You that You won't abandon us, instead, You are leading us into a season of radical new growth. Thank You that Your voluntary death was followed by Your resurrection. You are greater than all and no man is able to pluck us out of the father's hand. (John 10:28-29)

Poverty

Poverty according to Webster’s Dictionary~Poor
1) the condition or quality of being poor, indigence, need.
2) deficiency in necessary properties or desirable qualities. 3) smallest in amount, scarcity, paucity.

Vine’s Expository Dictionary~Ptocheia~destitution (akin to ptocheuo, poor) is used of the poverty which Christ voluntarily experienced on our behalf. Poor as a beggar, reduced to extreme
poverty.

The word ptocheuo suggests the bottom rung of poverty, a situation in which one is totally lacking in the world’s goods. Jesus was God of the Universe, and yet, “He became poor,” that is, He humbled Himself to come as a man to earth, where He was hated and killed on a cross. Through His poverty (Jesus’ self-giving) we were enabled to become joint heirs with Him.
(2 Corinthians 8:9)
“For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich.”

Of the destitute condition of saints in Judaea. (2 Corinthians 8:2)
“that in a great trial of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded in the riches of their liberality.

Of the condition of the church in Smyrna, where the word is used in a general sense. (Revelation 2:9)
“I know your works, tribulation, and poverty (but you are rich)….

Happiness is not having all you want. Happiness is wanting all you have.

Just Another Day

No matter the trials or hardships that come our way, the Lord has given us this day to rejoice in Him and simply give thanks for the many instances of deliverance in the past, present and future to come. The Lord is gracious and merciful and He gives us each new day both as a gift and an opportunity to triumph over every obstacle that comes our way. He has made us to be kings and priests on the earth and has favored us above all others giving us His Word and promise that through Him all things are possible. (Rev. 5:10)
I hope you are encouraged by this message to give thanks for every day that you are alive and make an extra effort to see the beauty that is in the midst of each new day.

JUST ANOTHER DAY

Is it morning already? I rub my eyes and get up to ready myself for just another day. It's just another day...I look out my window to see the sun beaming down, caressing the Earth with its golden rays. Above, white clouds float in the brilliant blue sky. I hear a cardinal singing to his mate as he perches upon my back fence. And a bed of crocus open their
purple heads to the heavens in joyful thankfulness.

It's just another day. My small daughter bursts into the room, her giggle ringing through the house as she hugs my neck tightly. Her small hand fits into mine as she pulls me to the kitchen to show me the card she has made. A stick figure with curly brown hair waves from the paper and beneath it, written in purple crayon are the words, “I love you, Mommy.”

It's just another day. As I stand quietly and watch a handicapped child. He struggles to get his special walker over the curb, but it won't budge. A well-meaning teacher offers assistance, but he brushes her away. With determination, he conquers the curb and is off to laugh and play with his friends. I weep inside for his handicap, but I am inspired by his courage. And I smile as I watch the children play, totally accepting their friend for who he is, not judging him for what he lacks.

It's just another day. My son proudly presents the report he did for school. He shares with me the hopes and dreams he holds for his future. His curiosity and excitement are contagious as we unfold the limitless possibilities that lay before him. I am encouraged that no dream is beyond our reach if we want it bad enough.

It's just another day. My beloved wraps his arms around me and surrounds me in love. I turn to look in the eyes that share my innermost feelings. What a special friend I have. Someone who loves me for who I am. Someone to lean on when I feel down. Someone to share my happiness. Someone to love.

Yes, it is just another day. A day to enjoy God's gracious beauty upon this Earth. A day to kiss the cherub cheeks of my children, and share in their hopes and dreams. A day to learn the value of determination and hard work. A day to learn the value of judging mankind for the quality he has, not what he has not. A day to learn the value of love.

Yes, it's just another day, I sigh. The stars dance in the velvet sky as a full yellow moon smiles cheerfully down. The house is quiet and still. The only sound is the soft even breathing of my spouse. I recall the scripture: “This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psalm 118:24)
And as I lay at the side of my soul mate I pray that God will let me see
“just another day”!

Rejoice in this day that God has given you and be appreciative of every good and perfect gift that is in your life. Don't look past your blessings to focus on your obstacles, but rather see your blessings as a focal point of God's goodness in your life and know that your obstacles will be overcome because of your faith and confidence in the God in whom you believe and trust. (1 Chronicles 16:8-12) (Philippians 4:4) (Ephesians 1:3-10)

Psalm 37:3-5 “Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. Delight thyself also in the LORD; and He shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in Him; and He shall bring it to pass.”

1 Chronicles 16:8-12 “Give thanks unto the LORD, call upon His name, make known His deeds among the people. Sing unto Him, sing psalms unto Him, talk ye of all His wondrous works. Glory ye in His holy name: let the heart of them rejoice that seek the LORD. Seek the LORD and His strength, seek His face continually. Remember His marvellous works that He hath done, His wonders, and the judgments of His mouth.”

Psalm 121:5-8 “The LORD is thy keeper: the LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand. The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night. The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: He shall preserve thy soul. The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.”

Psalm 103:2-5 “Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies; Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's.”

How Can I Become More Christ Like?

"How can I become more Christ-like?"

Answer: Becoming more like Christ is the desire of every believer, and it is encouragingto know that God has the same desire for us. In fact, the Bible says that God “predestined [believers] to be conformed to the likeness of his Son” (Romans 8:29). Making us Christ-like is God’s work, and He will see it through to the end (Philippians 1:6).

However, the fact that God will transform us into Christ-likeness doesn’t mean we can sit back and be carried to heaven “on flow’ry beds of ease.” The process demands our willing cooperation with the Holy Spirit. Becoming more Christ-like requires both divine power and the fulfillment of human responsibility.

There are three things which contribute to our being more Christ-like: our surrender to God, our freedom from sin, and our spiritual growth.

1) Becoming more Christ-like is the result of surrender to God. Romans 12:1-2 says that worship involves a total self-dedication to God. We volunteer our bodies as “living sacrifices,” and our minds are renewed and transformed.
When Jesus said, “Follow me,” Levi left his money tables immediately (Mark 2:14); so do we freely surrender all we have for the sake of following the Lord. As John the Baptist said, “He must become greater; I must become less” (John 3:30), so we focus more and more on Jesus and His glory, losing ourselves in His will.

2) Becoming more Christ-like is the result of freedom from sin. Since Jesus lived a sinless life, the more we consider ourselves “dead to sin” (Romans 6:11) and live a life of purity, the more like Jesus we will be. As we offer ourselves to God, sin is no longer our master, and we are more clearly identified with Christ (Romans 6:1-14).
Jesus invites us to follow Him, and we have His example of obedience (John 15:10), sacrificial love (John 15:12-13), and patient suffering (1 Peter 2:19-23). We also have the example of the apostles, who modeled Christ (1 Corinthians 11:1).
When it comes to restraining sin in our lives, we have divine help: praise the Lord for the Word of God (Psalm 119:11), the intercession of Christ (Romans 8:34; Hebrews 7:25), and the power of the Spirit who indwells us (Romans 8:4; Galatians 5:16)!

3) Becoming more Christ-like is the result of Christian growth. When we are first saved, we are immature in wisdom and knowledge, and inexperienced in grace and love. But then we grow. In each of these things, our charge is to become stronger—and more Christ-like. “Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 3:18). “May the Lord make your love increase and overflow for each other and for everyone else” (1 Thessalonians 3:12).

Right now, God works in us: “We, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord” (2 Corinthians 3:18). One day, however, the process will be complete: “When he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is” (1 John 3:2). The promise of being fully Christ-like in the future is in itself motivation for becoming more Christ-like now: “Everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself, just as he is pure” (1 John 3:3).

Joy In The Journey

No matter the trials or hardships that come our way, we should begin each new day with a renewed vigor knowing that God has great things in store for our life. Never get so lackadaisical with your life that you fail to see the beauty that surrounds you and the possibilities that each new day brings. The Lord declares in Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” The Lord wishes for us to advance in life accomplishing our goals and going forth to the heights of victory which He has set for us. Believe in yourself as God believes in you and renew your mind realizing that you are here to accomplish that which is deepest in your heart. (Psalm 118:24) (Ephesians 1:4-12) (Psalm 18:32) (John 15:5)

I pray you are encouraged and challenged by this message to reach for your goals in life and set your mind to be steadfast and determined giving no attention to the discouragement that comes your way. When we stay steadfast, great things happen.

THE JOURNEY

If you have ever been discouraged because of failure, please read on. For often, achieving what you set out to do is not the important thing. Let me explain. Two brothers decided to dig a deep hole behind their house. As they were working, a couple of older boys stopped by to watch. “What are you doing?” asked one of the visitors. “We plan to dig a hole all the way through the earth!” one of the brothers volunteered excitedly. The older boys began to laugh, telling the younger ones that digging a hole all the way through the earth was impossible. After a long silence, one of the diggers picked up a jar full of spiders, worms and a wide assortment of insects. He removed the lid and showed the wonderful contents to the scoffing visitors. Then he said quietly and confidently, “Even if we don't dig all the way through the earth, look what we found along the way!”

Their goal was far too ambitious, but it did cause them to dig. And that is what a goal is for -- to cause us to move in the direction we have chosen; in other words, to set us to digging! But not every goal will be fully achieved. Not every job will end successfully. Not every relationship will endure. Not every hope will come to pass. Not every love will last. Not every endeavor will be completed. Not every dream will be realized. But when you fall short of your aim, perhaps you can say, “Yes, but look at what I found along the way! Look at the wonderful things which have come into my life because I tried to do something!”

It is in the digging that life is lived. And I believe it is joy in the journey, in the end, that truly matters.

Jeremiah 33:3 “Call unto Me, and I will answer thee, and show thee greatand mighty things, which thou knows not.”

Isaiah 30:21 “And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.”

Proverbs 8:12-17 “I wisdom dwell with prudence, and find out knowledge of witty inventions. The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate. Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom: I am understanding; I have strength. By me kings reign, and princes decree justice. By me princes rule, and nobles, even all the judges of the earth. I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me.”

Psalm 138:6-8 “Though the LORD be high, yet hath He respect unto the lowly: but the proud He knows afar off. Though I walk in the midst of trouble, thou wilt revive me: thou shall stretch forth Thine hand against the wrath of mine enemies, and Thy right hand shall save me. The LORD will perfect that which concerns me: Thy mercy, O LORD, endures for ever: forsake not the works of Thine own hands.”

Later Than You Think

What I mean....is that the time is short....For this world in it's present form is passing away. (1 Corinthians 7:29, 31)

Many of us cannot grasp the truth that the time allotted to us on this earth is sufficient for all the Lord has planned for us to do. We don't need one minute more or one minute less to get the job done: Our greatest fear is running out of time. So we hurry through life trying desperately to get everything done: working overtime, eating fast food in the car, and racing down the highway.

In our quest to save time, we're losing something. Think about how your grandparents valued time. They had time for our parents, us and other family members and friends; they had time for music in their homes; they emphasized beautifully served meals, family reunions and long conversations. It seemed they had time for everything in life that was important because they took time to live. They treasured the bibical injunction that proclaims, "This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it." (Psalm 118:24)

Today, this very day, why don't you think of something that takes a bit of extra time to do and do it....

Maybe it will be an act of generosity or a moment of kindness directed toward a loved one or a stranger. Prehaps it will be simply singing a hymn of praise and thanksgiving because your heart is so full of gratitude.

Don't wait for another time. Rejoice in this day and be glad.

Let me start my work in faith, continue in obedience and finish with love.
